Phase I, Day 2. Woodfords, CA-Carson City, NV

30 miles. That's it? A bit of a letdown after the epic ride yesterday but necessary in order to work around the weather.

Woke up to the garbage truck and a beautiful sunrise but no coffee to be found. Figured best to get an early start to make some progress ahead of the incoming storm and search for coffee.

A very nice ride on Emigrant Trail took me North along the base of the Sierra. With a nice tailwind and slight downhill I soon found, at mile 25, Genoa, NV and coffee. Did you know Genoa is the first settlement in what later became Nevada Territory? Nice little town and good coffee too.

A few miles later arrived in Carson City and considered pressing on to Fallon to take advantage of the tailwind but elected to hunker down in Carson City. Good thing too. Later the temp dropped 30 degrees with VERY strong wind and sideways rain. Snowing on Carson Pass where I was enjoying 75F just 24 hours ago.

Used the downtime to visit the last bike shop before Salt Lake City and hit the Lucky Strike Casino "All-U-Can-Eat" $7.99 buffet.

Tuesday's weather looks very cool and a bit breezy but otherwise good for the 70 miles to Fallon. Once in Fallon I will be back on track with the original schedule and, with some luck, no more weather excitement ahead. High pressure forming over Nevada starting Wednesday so blue sky...I hope.
